Project Description: The Noonday Creek Multi-use trail is a six-mile continuation of the existing Mountain to River trail that currently ends at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. When completed, the Trail will extend eastward to Bells Ferry Road, and is part of Cobb County's proposed multi-use trail network.
The Town Center Area CID provided the Preliminary Engineering designs for Phase 1A and 1B and is the lead agency in this project. The combined Phases 1A and 1B begin at the Park's Visitor's Center, extending to Barrett Parkway. In addition:
- The National Park Service and Cobb County were responsible for the construction of Phase 1A, which has been completed.
- The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and Cobb County are responsible for construction of Phase 1B, which will be completed by June 22, 2012.
The TCACID was also the lead agency in developing the three phases that encompass Phase 2.
Phase 2A was completed earlier this year (2011) with construction funding provided by Georgia Department of Transportation and TCACID. Right-of-Way acquisition was provided by CCDOT. This project completes the trail along US 41 between Barrett Pkwy. and Cobb Pkwy. at Noonday Creek, and adjoins Phase 2B.
The construction of Phase 2B was paid for by the TCACID, while Cobb County paid for the Right-of-Way acquisition. This section is a 2.28 mile paved, multi-purpose trail facility that runs along portions of Noonday Creek, Vaughn Road, Cobb Place Blvd. and Barrett Lakes Blvd. It was completed in August 2010.
Phase 2C begins at Barrett Lakes Blvd. and continues to Bells Ferry Road. Construction will begin in spring of 2012 and should be completed in early summerof 2014. Construction funding will be provided by GDOT, the TCACID and Cobb County with Cobb County again providing the Right-of-Way acquisition funding.
