  Chastain Road Improvements

Current Status
as of July, 2011

Project Description: This operational, safety, and pedestrian improvement project consists of adding turn lanes at all major intersections, including dual left-turn lanes and exclusive right-turn lanes at most of the intersections. New traffic signal equipment will be installed throughout the corridor with an interconnected system that allows each traffic signal to communicate with the others as well as communicate with CCDOT’s traffic management center. The project also adds bike lane throughout the corridor and sidewalks on each side of the roadway.

The Chastain Road bridge over I-75 was raised to improve a vertical clearance for trucks on I-75, and the Chastain Road bridge over I-75 and I-575 was widened to accommodate the additional turn lanes. Project limits are from Big Shanty Road on the west side to a point just past I-575 on the east end.
